Monetize the app

Learn about the different model to monetize your content and how to set up each monetization model.

This is a beta offering. You can request access to this beta feature through your JWP Account Manager.

By using this documentation, you are agreeing to abide by the terms of the JWP Beta Program Agreement.

App Config allow you to configure several monetization models:

The following sections explain how to configure each monetization model.

Advertising

OTT apps support monetization by inserting video ads across all supported platforms. The following table lists the best advertising method to use with a type of content.

Content Advertising Method
Videos On-Demand (VOD)
  • Movies
  • Series
Client-side ad insertion
Live Streams
  • Live Events
  • 24/7
Server-side ad insertion

Configure client-side ad insertion

For your on-demand videos, you can schedule and manage pre-roll and mid-roll ad breaks from your JWP dashboard. Since conversion rates are low and drop-off rates are high, we recommend not creating a post-roll ad break.

šŸš§

OTT apps only support client-side ad insertion through the IAB VAST and VMAP standards.

  3. From the Display Ads dropdown menu, choose an ad schedule.

Configure server-side ad insertion

For your live stream events and Live Events, your OTT apps support server-side ad insertion (SSAI) through the Apple HLS standard. Ad breaks can be triggered by sending SCTE-35 tags along with your live stream ingest.

If you intend to serve SSAI ads in your OTT apps, inform your JWP representative. Your JWP representative will configure this functionality for each Live Channel in your OTT apps.

Subscription

šŸ“˜

OTT apps built with the JWP web app work solely with the subscription management system provider, Cleeng. For more information about working with Cleeng, contact your JWP representative.

Through working with an integrated subscription management system, you can monetize your OTT app content with subscriptions.

When subscriptions are enabled, only subscribers can view the videos in the OTT app. When a non-subscriber tries to view a video, the content landing page and a prompt to become a subscriber appear.
