Set georestricting rules for videos


You can restrict an individual cloud-hosted or registered video to viewers in certain countries.

Be mindful of the following when setting georestricting rules:

  • Georestricting rules apply only to the content played within a player. Player libraries are not impacted by georestricting rules.
  • Only Admin user accounts can create and manage georestricting rules. Manager and Content Editor user accounts can only apply and remove georestricting rules from content.

Follow these steps to create a georestricting rule for a video:

  1. On the Properties page, click the name of a property. The property settings appear.
  2. Under Content & ad enhancements, click Content protection. The Content protection tab appears.
  3. Under Media geoblocking section, click Create media rule. The Create media rule panel appears.
  4. Enter a Rule name.
  5. Select a Rule type:
    • Allow: Allow a specific list of locations to view this media
    • Deny: Block a specific list of locations from viewing this media

  6. From the Locations dropdown menu, click the name of a country to apply to the rule. The name of the country appears beneath the dropdown menu.

    💡

    If you need to remove a country, click the country name in the list beneath the dropdown menu.

  7. (Optional) Repeat step 6 to add another country to the rule.
  8. Click Save. The panel closes and the rule appears under Media geoblocking.

You can now add the georestricting rule to videos.

Follow these steps to add a georestricting rule:

  1. From your Media library, click the name of a media item. The media settings appear.
  2. On the Advanced settings tab, under Content protection, select an existing geoblocking rule from the dropdown menu.
  3. Click Save.

Follow these steps to add a georestricting rule:

  1. From your Media library, click the checkbox next to each media item to include in a geoblocking rule.

    The checkbox appears when you hover over the row of a media item.

  2. Click Add protection rules. The Add content protection popup window appears.
  3. From the dropdown menu, Choose an existing geoblocking rule.
  4. Click Add.

Follow these steps to edit a georestricting rule:

  1. On the Properties page, click the name of a property. The property settings appear.
  2. Under Content & ad enhancements, click Content protection. The Content protection tab appears.
  3. Under Media geoblocking, hover over the row of the user to expose (More actions icon) at the end of the row.
  4. Click ⋯ > Edit. The Edit geoblocking rule panel appears.
  5. Edit the Rule name, Rule type, or Locations sections.
  6. Click Save.


Delete a video georestricting rule

Deleting a georestricting rule is permanent and immediately removes georestricted settings from all associated media.

Follow these steps to delete a georestricting rule:

  1. On the Properties page, click the name of a property. The property settings appear.
  2. Under Content & ad enhancements, click Content protection. The Content protection tab appears.
  3. Under Media geoblocking section, hover over the row of the user to expose (More actions icon) at the end of the row.
  4. Click > Delete.

The rule will be deleted and removed from all media associated. If enabled, the global property georestricting setting will be applied back to these media.
