Set georestricting rules for videos
You can restrict an individual cloud-hosted or registered video to viewers in certain countries.
Be mindful of the following when setting georestricting rules:
- Georestricting rules apply only to the content played within a player. Player libraries are not impacted by georestricting rules.
- Only Admin user accounts can create and manage georestricting rules. Manager and Content Editor user accounts can only apply and remove georestricting rules from content.
Create a georestricting rule

Create media rule panel
Follow these steps to create a georestricting rule for a video:
- On the Properties page, click the name of a property. The property settings appear.
- Under Content & ad enhancements, click Content protection. The Content protection tab appears.
- Under Media georestricting section, click Create media rule. The Create georestricting rule panel appears.
- Enter a Rule name.
- Select a Rule type:
- Allow: Allow a specific list of locations to view this media
- Deny: Block a specific list of locations from viewing this media
- From the Locations dropdown menu, click the name of a country to apply to the rule. The name of the country appears beneath the dropdown menu.
If you need to remove a country, click the country name in the list beneath the dropdown menu.
- (Optional) Repeat step 6 to add another country to the rule.
- Click Save. The panel closes and the rule appears under Media georestricting.
You can now add the georestricting rule to videos.
Add a georestricting rule to videos
Single media

Georestricting a single media item
Follow these steps to add a georestricting rule:
- From your Media library, click the name of a media item. The media settings appear.
- On the Advanced settings tab, under Content protection, select an existing georestricting rule from the dropdown menu.
- Click Save.
Multiple media

Georestricting multiple media items
Follow these steps to add a georestricting rule:
- From your Media library, click the checkbox next to multiple media items.
- From the Actions dropdown menu, click Content protection. The Manage content protection for media panel appears.
- From the dropdown menu, choose an existing Georestricting rule.
- Click Save.
Edit a video georestricting rule
Follow these steps to edit a georestricting rule:
- On the Properties page, click the name of a property. The property settings appear.
- Under Content & ad enhancements, click Content protection. The Content protection tab appears.
- Under Media georestricting, hover over the row of the user to expose ⋯ (More actions icon) at the end of the row.
- Click ⋯ > Edit. The Edit georestricting rule panel appears.
- Edit the Rule name, Rule type, or Locations sections.
- Click Save.
Delete a video georestricting rule
Deleting a georestricting rule is permanent and immediately removes georestricted settings from all associated media.
Follow these steps to delete a georestricting rule:
- On the Properties page, click the name of a property. The property settings appear.
- Under Content & ad enhancements, click Content protection. The Content protection tab appears.
- Under Media georestricting, hover over the row of the user to expose ⋯ (More actions icon) at the end of the row.
- Click ⋯ > Delete.
The rule will be deleted and removed from all media associated. If enabled, the global property georestricting setting will be applied back to these media.
