Learn how to group your content as episodes and seasons



A series is a powerful tool that provides a simplified, dedicated workflow to manage episodes and seasons:

  • Group videos and bonus content into a single season of multiple episodes or multiple seasons of episodes
  • Add series to playlists
  • Include series in the JW Web App via an app config

You can use series to group content, such as TV shows, films, sermons, sports competitions, crime dramas, and podcasts

Create a series

If you are a developer or have developer resources, you can use one of the following recipes to create a series:


Use the following steps to create a series:

  1. From your Media Library, click Add Media > Series. The series creation page appears.
  2. Add content to the series.
  3. Add series metadata.
  4. Upload a video thumbnail.
  5. Click Save.



Add content

Adding seasons to your series allows you to create groups of episodic content.

To add a season, follow these steps:

  1. In the Does this Series use Seasons? section, click an option:
    • No, add Episodes: This option adds only episodes to your series excludes the use of seasons. This option is tailored to single-season or limited series. After clicking this option, the Series Details page appears.
    • Yes, add a Season. This option adds seasons to your series, allowing you to create groups of episodic content. After clicking this option, the Season Details page appears.

  2. (Season only) Enter basic season details:
    1. In the Title field, click the default title to rename the season.
    2. (Optional) Enter the Season Number. If no value is entered, the season number defaults to 1. Subsequent seasons will increment in numerical order.
    3. Enter a short Description of the series.

  3. (Optional) Under Episode Numbering, define a STARTING INTEGER for the series. The starting integer will be the number assigned to the first episode in the series. If no value is entered, the season number defaults to 1. Subsequent episodes will increment in numerical order.

  4. (Optional) Under Bonus Content Numbering, define a STARTING INTEGER. The starting integer indicates the end of episodic content and the beginning of extra features.

  5. In the Media Items section, click Add Episodes or + Add Episodes to Season. The Add Media panel appears.

  6. Select media for the series or season. You can choose media items using different methods.

Search Bar
  1. In the search bar at the top of the page, enter the media’s title, description, tag, or JWP media ID. The results appear in the menu below.
  2. Click the checkbox next to one or several media items.
Manual
  1. Scroll through the media item menu.
  2. Click the checkbox next to one or several media items.
Filters
  1. Click the filter dropdown menu. The menu expands.

  2. Select a filter:
    • Title: This filter alphabetizes the media item results by title. Click the up/down arrow beside the filter to arrange the list in ascending or descending order.
    • Publish Date: This filter sorts the media item resulte by publish date. Click the up/down arrow beside the filter to organize the list by ascending or descending recency.

  3. Click the checkbox next to one or several media items.

  1. Add media to your season. There are two options to add media:
    • Click Add to Top. The panel closes. The selected media is placed at the beginning of the Media Items section.
    • Click Add to Bottom. The panel closes. The selected mediate is placed at the end of the Media Items.

  2. (Optional) To add bonus content, drag a media item from the Media Items list to the Bonus Content section.

  3. Click Save. The Series Details or Season Details page closes. The details page of the series reappears.

  4. (Season only) To add another season, in the Seasons section, click + Add Season and repeat steps 2-9.

  5. Click Sorting to define how seasons and episodes appear in the series.



Add series metadata

Follow these steps to add metadata to your series:

  1. From your Media Library, select a series. The media details page appears.

  2. Edit your content metadata.

  3. Under the Content Type section, fill out the related Series fields.


    Field Description
    Genre Genre used to categorize content

    Use the following step to configure this field:
    1. Select an option from the dropdown menu.
    Rating Motion picture rating of the content to determine the intended audience

    Use the following step to configure this field:
    1. Select an option from the dropdown menu.
    Trailer Preview video file for the content

    Use the following step to configure this field:
    1. Add a trailer or highlights video in the Trailer field.

  4. Click Save.


FAQs

Are the limitations when creating a series in a property?

Yes. The following table lists the maximum related to creating a series.

Topic Limitation
Series per property ≤ 25,000 series
Episodes (including bonus content) per series ≤ 10,000 episodes
Seasons per series ≤ 20 seasons

Can content be added to multiple series?

Yes, a media item such as a video can be added to multiple series.


What happens when a series or season is deleted?

When a series or season is deleted, the following actions occur:

  • The series or season is deleted from your Media Library
  • Thumbnails and images associated with the series are deleted

All other content, such as videos, added to a series or season are not deleted. They will remain in your Media Library.


Are there any playlist sorts that cannot be applied to a playlist of series?

Yes, sorting a playlist of series by views or trending will not impact the playlist order. Views are associated with individual media and not with a series.
