Do you need to increase ad revenue for a tentpole event, test a lighter ad load for new viewers, or finetune ad pressure across your catalog, but have no room for app changes?

SSAI strategies help you define when viewers receive different server-side ad experiences without requiring changes to your video application. By applying rule-based decisioning in the SSAI workflow, you can tailor ad loads, run A/B tests, and optimize performance based on conditions you control.

SSAI strategies evaluate incoming SSAI manifest requests against a set of rules you define. Each rule resolves to an ad config, which determines the ad experience stitched into the stream.

This enables you to do the following:

  • Deliver personalized ad experiences by tailoring ad loads to viewer behavior, content, and custom conditions
  • Increase revenue by optimizing ad pressure, improving fill, and maximizing monetization across your inventory
  • Improve viewer satisfaction with relevant and balanced ad breaks
  • Run A/B tests to identify your best-performing ad experiences
  • Measure performance using strategy-level SSAI analytics



How SSAI strategies work

When a viewer requests an SSAI manifest that includes a strategy ID, the SSAI system:

  1. Evaluates the incoming request against your strategy rules
  2. Identifies the matching branch outcome
  3. Resolves the branch to the appropriate ad config
  4. Stitches ads according to that ad config
  5. Returns the stitched SSAI manifest to the viewer

You can define strategies in the JWX dashboard using a JSON editor, which accepts query parameter-based rules (such as ?user_type=new) and A/B test definitions between two ad configs.
